” I had such a wonderful time working with Jordana and Stephane. For two hours I met with them at their apartment, discussing what type of look/feel couples are striving for is extremely important. When I understand this, I can look for details to shoot that may not be so obvious; I can learn about any sensitivities that would be unknown had I just stepped into the wedding on the day itself; and, I can get a feel for their personalities which inspire editing and music choices. Jordana and Stephane are very artistic people who had a strong sense of the design. They wanted an interior that wasn’t traditional in look and feel and they also wanted to include elements that would pay homage to their heritage. Originally, they had planned for a fall wedding, but moved it to the spring because of her father’s failing health. I wanted to make sure that I captured as much of her father as possible so she would have wonderful memories of this time with him. To honor Stephane’s family, who are French-Moroccan, they adorned the tables with Moroccan-styled lanterns, hanging crystals, flower urns filled with colored water and glass stones. Jordana’s father loves Klezmer music so she hired a Klezmer band to provide entertainment for part of the evening. The evening would be an explosion of warm colors. The combination of diverse music and the incorporation of colors and cultural accents was a visual and musical dream come true and I was so thrilled to be the one capturing it. I also learned that The In-Style Network was going to be filming their wedding for an episode of “Whose Wedding is it Anyway?”. Since I had never worked with a tv crew at a wedding, I was a little concerned. As it turned out, it was a breeze. The wedding day itself turned out perfectly. The weather was gorgeous which allowed us to shoot some color Super 8 film by the water in Battery Park. The sun also was beginning to set which provided stunning color. The space was warm and colorful, the guests were in a celebratory mood. Jordana and Stephane glowed throughout the entire day/evening and their excitement translated into a beautiful wedding film. Below is a clip from the wedding. They danced so romantically together that I was inspired to create this segment for them. I wrapped the visuals underneath a Dianne Reeves interpretation of “You Taught My Heart to Sing”. UPDATE: Since I am so not a computer genius I couldn’t figure out how to get a video on my blog so please visit Valerie’s Website http://valeriebarnesvideo.com/weddings.html and click Tribeca Rooftop Evening
This week my friend Laura Nadeau at Laura Nadeau & Co (formerly Bubble & Lo) opened her beautiful battery park apartment to a group of inspiring women within the events related industry for the “Fabulous Females” group. I am so excited to be part of this group and start friendships and relationships with these women. I encourage all my readers to check out the work and websites of the Fab Females as they are all so qualified and most of all SMART. Every woman in the room was so passionate and knowledgeable about her craft.
