I was so surprised/ Embarrassed about the GIANT picture of my face as the cover page, but I guess it's pretty cool to see yourself like that at the same time! My clients Liz and James were married on September 6th 2008, which was actually the day of Hurricane Hannah in NYC. However the ain was no match for Liz and James wedding and you can see in the pictures below how truely elegant the night was.The ceremony took place at St. Borromeo Church in Brooklyn and the reception was held at Long Island City's The Foundry. Cocktail hour was held inside the very industrial space, dinner was held outside in the large tent, and dancing and dessert back inside. The amazing food was catered by Diane Gordon of Entertaining Ideas Catering . All of these gorgeous ......

Happy Friday everyone! In addition to being a New York event planning & design firm, Polka Dot Events also offers a Proposal Planner service to help out guys in need of some real proposal experties. I was recently asked to write some expert advice on proposals for the Men’s online Magazine, Debonair. Instead of writing a whole story, I decided to write a list of Do’s and Don’ts for today’s modern dude looking to figure out the perfect proposal for his girlfriend. Feel free to disagree add on in the comments section! Check back soon for a link to my article on Debonair that will be posted within the next week or so.

The Dos and Don’ts of Proposing

DON’T Ask Her on a Scoreboard. Sorry guys, but unless your girlfriend is a major sports fan, you have to realize that a Yankee game is where YOU wish you were proposed to, not her.

DO Be Yourself. Are you both very private? Approach her at home where there’s no pressure. Are you the type of couple that loves to do everything to the extreme? Your girlfriend is probably expecting something extravagant, which could mean a whole production on your part (see “Ask for Help”). Keep in mind what makes you two so compatible and try to incorporate this in your plan.

DO Plan a Post-Engaged Surprise. Whether you’d like to surprise her with an engagement party in a swanky restaurant with everyone you know, go out to dinner just the two of you, or meet all your closest friends at the local bar, you will both be thrilled to make your engagement official with a celebration.

DON’T Hide the Ring in Food. Your engagement night should not be spent at the hospital trying to retrieve the ring after your girlfriend accidentally swallowed it. If you are stuck on the food proposal, do yourself a favor and buy diamond insurance.

Do Ask for Help. It’s understandable that most guys need help when it comes to buying a ring and finding the perfect way to deliver it. Talk to your girlfriend’s best friend, sister, mother, or whomever you think knows her best. If these sources are not available or you need extra help for a more elaborate production, there is a whole industry of Proposal Planners such as myself that can help you with just that. Good Luck!
