Polka Dot Events was recently featured in The "Your Money" section of the Daily News in an article about young entrepreneurs! I was so surprised/ Embarrassed about the GIANT picture of my face as the cover page, but I guess it's pretty cool to see yourself like that at the same time! My clients Liz and James were married on September 6th 2008, which was actually the day of Hurricane Hannah in NYC. However the ain was no match for Liz and James wedding and you can see in the pictures below how truely elegant the night was.The ceremony took place at St. Borromeo Church in Brooklyn and the reception was held at Long Island City's The Foundry. Cocktail hour was held inside the very industrial space, dinner was held outside in the large tent, and dancing and dessert back inside. The amazing food was catered by Diane Gordon of Entertaining Ideas Catering . All of these gorgeous ......

As promised, here at the additional photos from Lauren and Torrey's loft wedding at Penthouse 15. All pictures are taken by Tiffany Atlas of Atlas Wedding Photography who I would highly recommend to be your next photographer! How great are these programs made by the Bride and Groom? I did a wedding in September at Penthouse 15, a great loft space in midtown with a rooftop. Lauren and Torrey were such a great couple to work with from day one because they were so hands on, creative, and really did everything together as a couple. It's nice to see a really involved groom once in awhile! Here are some pictures taken by their friend Erin Gleeson at EVWedding s .Stay tuned for more pictures taken by photographer Tiffany Atlas. Lauren and Torrey made these programs themselves. It set the tone for their wheat grass theme throughout the event More to come soon!......

Lighting truly makes an event’s design complete. It is probably the most under appreciated part of event planning/design and is often left out due to budget restrictions but I am a full believer in making some room in the budget for lighting for events at “raw” spaces like lofts and tents.

When I hire for lighting design, I often work with NYC’s Levy Lighting, they are often quoted at thousands of dollars in magazines but they are really great there because they will work with your budget if you are just looking for a couple of up lights. Below are some pictures I found of really great lighting:

There are a couple elements I’d like to pick out in this picture. First there is that water effect on the ceiling which I think is just the coolest thing. It’s like eating in an aquarium! Then there is the spot lights on the centerpieces which looks great too.

You can get these light up bars from most rental companies. I found these at Taylor Creative Inc.
